Meet a partner on the course by email, WhatsApp or Zoom. Read Frost's 'Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening' and discuss:

1. 'Which of the two urges, the life urge and the death urge, prevails at the end of the poem? How do you know?

2. If the archetype winter, 'the darkest evening of the year', represents the death urge, what in the poem represents the life urge?

3. Winter is not the only archetype in this poem. Two others are woods and a road. What do they suggest to you?

4. What is the tone of the poem?

You can discuss your ideas and initiate dialogue in the comments section below. Then submit your observations as instructed.
